Heal The Hurt Long Beach Concert reviews
Best Automotive Race I've been to :)
My new favorite track is definitely the Heal The Hurt race. I've also seen NHRA top fuel drag racing. I've seen Rally America and Porsche GT3 cup racing @ NJMP. And it was totally worth my journey from philly. When my friend invited me to stay @ his camp site and I found a way of getting to Austin for cheap, I bought my $300+ turn 9 seats. I don't watch every single race on TV and follow team and driver stats. I'm just a regular casual fan. I'm not a huge fan of F1 to be honest.
During the F1 race, this mattered the most because everywhere you go that is GA is guaranteed to be pretty crowded and you're most likely to have people standing in front of you blocking your view of the track. Standing by turn 3, it looks like the cars are on rails as they fly through the esses. From Turn 9, I could see cars rounding turn 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and with my binoculars, a little bit of 12. Having actual seats was worth it IMHO. From down low, you really get a sense of the speed and grip of these cars!
My tickets got me access to all 3 days of the event (Friday to Sunday). Along with F1 practices on Friday, Saturday, and the race on Sunday, I got to see the Porsche GT3 Cup guys as well as the Ferrari 458 guys practice and race. It also does no justice for how ridiculously fast the F1 cars cover ground. If you've watched F1 @ COTA on TV, TV does no justice for the radical esses or massive climb up to Turn 1.
My friend with the RV made the trip really affordable for me. In between practices and races, we'd stroll back to the RV for some grub, beer, and to relax. The F1 race it's self is short in comparison to the amount of time it takes to get to the track, so it's best to make an event out of it. Austin is only 15 miles away but traffic is pretty bad leaving the track after each day. I wish I had spent more time in Austin because it looks like a fun city. Go with some friends. Get a RV and camp out.... it's worth it.
From turn 1 looking down, the climb and length of the straight away is really awesome. Also, from both our seats and various GA places around the track, you could hear the commentators and see the race from the jumbotrons placed in the infield. During the practices we went and checked out all of the GA seating and got our walking in. And there's a good selection of beer and other alchoholic beverages from many vendors all over the place. Food at the event looks really good but is expensive (like ball park expensive). And the Biergarten and LaCantina looked especially tempting (especially when the cute girls in their spanish/mexican themed dresses ask us to do tequila shots w/them at 9am) but I held off and saved my $!
I think if you get there on Thursday, you can enter the track and go to the top of the observation tower for free ($35 on the other days).
